Ashley Suriza (better known as "Ash") is one of the main characters of Whisper and the overall Cities of the Lost series. Ash, part of the six main protagonists, discovered the new Gifted world while fumbling with a life of her own — most of which to the reader is still a secret.
Personality
Ash is always skeptical about everything she sees. She needs the proof before she believes something — and even then, she’s sure to make sure she has her own opinions on it. Ash isn’t scared to use her words — if she needs to say something, she’ll always say it.
She’s known not to reveal too many things about her life, and she’s secretive — Zarina recounts that she barely knows anything about her family, even though they’ve been friends for a while. She isn’t that open with her friends, and knows her limits of when she needs to tell them something.
Ash is slightly more aggressive than the rest of the six, and isn’t afraid to show her opinions. She’ll speak up for herself and anyone else around her, and it’s known to those who know her than they don’t want to cross her wrath.
Relationships
Most of Ash's character backstory is unknown, but what is revealed is that she attended the school Ivy Academy for a good portion of her life before she transferred to where the other five went to elementary school. There, Ash knew Luna Muriel — however, they weren't good friends. Whenever the topic is brought up, however, it is known that Ash's reactions to Ivy Academy has been negative.
Her first friendships at Liberty Lake Middle School are comprised of Luna, Trina, and Zarina. Like the others, she was better acquainted with Fern and Lucyna during their school trip to Camp Cryptic at the beginning of Whisper.
In the Gifted world, she's well acquainted with the Alana quadruplets, as well as Iliza Snof.
Ash is the only child in her family, and lives with her great aunt. Much about her family details are unknown, and she doesn't seem to want to spare the conversation about it.
Gift
Ash is a Flame — she can bend the element of fire to her will, as well as make it appear out of this air. Because of this, she’s immune to the heat of fire. After a certain point, she can’t feel anything, and she can’t burn, no matter what.
That’s all for Ash, at least now. I’m sorry for the late post — but the end of the school year can get a little rocky, with everything coming to the end at once (and final exams 🥲). I’ll have something ready for next week.
